Valve Replacement FAQ

Valve Replacement FAQ

How to replace any brand of safety or relief valve with an Aquatrol equivalent. Includes Kunkle and Apollo cross-reference guidance.

How do I replace a safety valve?

To replace any safety valve: identify the existing valve specs from its nameplate (set pressure, connection size, media type, ASME code stamp), match the connection size and type, match or exceed the orifice area for equivalent capacity, match the set pressure exactly, ensure the same ASME code stamp (V or UV), and match seat material to your service conditions. Our Valve Finder Tool automates this.

What Aquatrol valve replaces a Kunkle 6010?

The Kunkle 6010 series (bronze, ASME Section VIII, air/gas/steam) is typically replaced by Aquatrol 130 Series valves. Match the specific set pressure, connection size, and orifice. Use our Kunkle Cross-Reference page for exact model-to-model matching.

What Aquatrol valve replaces a Kunkle 6182?

The Kunkle 6182 (ASME Section I, steam) maps to the Aquatrol 740 Series for boiler safety valve applications. The 740 Series is ASME Section I certified with a V code stamp. Match set pressure, connection size, and capacity.

Why should I switch from Kunkle to Aquatrol?

Kunkle has experienced extended lead times (often 12 to 20 plus weeks) and limited availability since Emerson acquisition. Aquatrol offers equivalent ASME-certified performance, shorter lead times (most ship within days), competitive pricing, and direct cross-reference compatibility.

What Aquatrol valve replaces an Apollo safety valve?

Apollo safety valves map to various Aquatrol series depending on application. Apollo bronze safety valves typically cross to Aquatrol 130 Series or 88/89 Series. Match the ASME code stamp, set pressure, connection size, and orifice.

Can I change the set pressure on an existing valve?

For ASME Section VIII (UV stamp) valves, qualified repair facilities can adjust set pressure within the spring range. For ASME Section I (V stamp) valves, no, these must be replaced with a valve factory-set to the correct pressure. Never attempt field adjustment of any ASME safety valve.

Are Aquatrol valves direct replacements for other brands?

Yes. Aquatrol valves use industry-standard connections and orifice sizes, making them direct drop-in replacements for Kunkle, Apollo, Conbraco, and other major brands. The same ASME certifications, equivalent capacity ratings, and standard thread sizes ensure compatibility.
