Air Receiver Safety Valves — OSHA Compliance
OSHA requires every compressed air receiver tank to be protected by a properly sized, functioning relief valve. Aquatrol’s air receiver relief valves are ASME Section VIII certified and sized for your specific receiver capacity and operating pressure. Full compliance documentation supports OSHA inspections and workplace safety certifications.
Air Receiver Safety Compliance
Compressed air receiver tanks store energy under pressure. If overpressure occurs, the tank can rupture, causing dangerous discharge and operator injury. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.169 mandates that every receiver tank be equipped with a functioning relief valve set to open at or below the tank’s maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP).
Air receiver relief sizing is straightforward: the valve must be sized for the receiver’s maximum operating pressure and capacity (gallons or liters). A valve that’s too small cannot adequately relieve pressure; too large wastes resources and space. Our sizing tool uses tank volume and operating pressure to recommend the correct series and setting.
Regular inspection and testing are part of OSHA compliance. Annual relief valve testing confirms the valve functions correctly and holds the specified pressure. Aquatrol provides documentation and can coordinate testing. Proper maintenance and clear labeling on the tank support OSHA compliance and workplace safety.
| Tank Size | Operating Pressure | Series | Relief Capacity |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20–50 gallons | 80–120 PSIG | 140 | 50–100 CFM |
| 50–150 gallons | 80–150 PSIG | 55, 140 | 100–200 CFM |
| 150–500 gallons | 100–200 PSIG | 55, 120 | 150–400 CFM |
| 500+ gallons | 100–300 PSIG | 120, 141 | 250–600+ CFM |
| High-pressure | 300–1,000 PSIG | 55, 120, 141 | 50–300 CFM |
