Frequently Asked Questions
Safety valve capacity must equal or exceed your boiler’s maximum steam generating capacity (typically shown in lbs/hr on the boiler nameplate). Our configurator shows relieving capacity for each valve size at your set pressure, so you can match it to your boiler’s rating.
Section I applies to fired steam boilers — boilers with a burner that directly heats the pressure vessel. Section VIII applies to unfired pressure vessels, including hot water heaters and vessels that receive steam from an external source. Check your boiler nameplate or ask your inspector if you’re unsure.
Yes. Safety valves are interchangeable as long as the replacement matches the required specifications: set pressure, relieving capacity, inlet/outlet size, and certification. Aquatrol valves meet or exceed ASME Section I requirements and are National Board registered.
Most configured valves ship within 12-14 business days from our manufacturing facility. We’ll confirm lead time when you place your order.
Every Series 560 valve includes ASME Section I certification, National Board registration, and documentation required for jurisdictional inspection. CE/PED certification available for international requirements.
| ASME Section I (PG-73.2.4) requires that safety valves on steam boilers have a lift lever that allows manual testing while under pressure. This ensures the valve can be verified operational during regular boiler inspections. |
