ExecutivSummary
Valve sizing and application suitability depend on system-specific conditions that vary by installation. While we provide product information and selection tools to assist with valve configuration, final responsibility for verifying sizing, application suitability, and ASME compliance rests with the system designer, owner, or operator.
This policy explains how sizing and application responsibility is handled for valves purchased through this site.
Scope
This policy applies to all pressure relief and safety valves purchased through this website, whether configured using online tools or selected manually.
Customer Responsibility
The customer is responsible for confirming that the selected valve is appropriate for the intended application.
This includes verification of, but is not limited to:
- Process pressure and temperature
- Relieving capacity and required orifice size
- Service fluid and physical properties
- Materials of construction compatibility
- Set pressure and allowable overpressure
- Installation orientation and operating conditions
- Compliance with applicable ASME requirements (e.g., ASME Section VIII, Section I, or other governing standards)
The accuracy and completeness of all application data provided by the customer is the customer’s responsibility.
Distributor Role
As a distributor, we provide:
- Manufacturer specifications and documentation
- Configuration and selection tools
- General application guidance when requested
- Coordination with manufacturer or engineering support when applicable
Unless explicitly agreed to in writing, we do not assume responsibility for:
- System design
- Final valve sizing
- Code interpretation or compliance determinations
- Engineering approval of the application
All tools and guidance are provided as selection aids and do not replace application-specific engineering review.
Sizing Tools and Calculations
Sizing tools and calculators available on this site are intended to assist with valve selection based on user-provided inputs.
Important considerations:
- Results are dependent on the accuracy of customer-supplied data
- Default assumptions may not reflect actual operating conditions
- Fluids other than air or steam may have significantly different properties (e.g., molecular weight, ratio of specific heats, viscosity, relieving temperature)
- Customer-provided sizing data takes precedence over any standard assumptions
Final verification of sizing and suitability remains the responsibility of the customer.
When Application Review Is Recommended
Application review or sizing verification is recommended when:
- The service fluid is not air or steam
- The application involves elevated pressure, temperature, or hazardous media
- The valve protects critical or regulated equipment
- A legacy valve is being replaced without known sizing basis
- There is uncertainty regarding ASME code applicability
Requesting Application Review
Optional application review or sizing verification is available upon request and may include:
- Review of application conditions
- Sizing confirmation
- Manufacturer or engineering consultation
This service is intended to provide additional confidence prior to purchase and does not transfer application responsibility unless explicitly agreed in writing.
Acknowledgment
By completing a purchase, the customer acknowledges that valve selection, sizing, and application suitability have been reviewed and confirmed for the intended system and applicable code requirements.
