Flanged Relief Valve Applications

Flanged relief valves integrate directly into piping systems with permanent bolted connections, ideal for large-diameter process equipment, power generation, and industrial installations. Flanged design supports high-flow applications up to 6,000 PSIG and eliminates threaded connection torque concerns. Dual or multiple relief configurations are straightforward with flanged design.

Material options include carbon steel for general service, 316L stainless for corrosive environments, duplex and super-duplex for extreme corrosion, and specialty alloys for aggressive chemical or high-temperature applications. ASME Section VIII and API certification available for all flanged configurations.

Custom engineering is standard—special pressure settings, unusual flange sizes, direct-tapped pilot supplies, and integrated pressure reducing combinations are all available. Aquatrol works with OEM and end-user engineers to design flanged relief that meets exact system requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a pressure class and what class do I need?
Pressure class (150, 300, 600, 900, 1500) indicates the flange’s rated pressure at a reference temperature per ASME B16.5. Match your class to your operating pressure—e.g., 300 class for systems up to 300 PSIG. Higher classes cost more but provide safety margin. Specify the class of your downstream flange connections.
What are my flange connection options?
ASME B16.5 flanges (raised face, ring joint) are standard in the U.S. ISO 7241 (metric) flanges are common in Europe and for some specialty applications. We manufacture both; specify your flange standard and pressure class when requesting a quote.
Can I mount multiple relief valves on one manifold?
Yes. Flanged relief valves are ideal for dual or triple configurations where primary and secondary relief are required. We design custom manifolds with integrated isolation and test ports. Provide your system requirements and we’ll engineer the manifold.
How do I install a flanged relief valve?
Flanged valves bolt directly to piping with ASME gaskets and bolts (typically provided). Torque bolts to ASME B16.5 specifications in a star pattern for even gasket compression. Use appropriate gasket material for your media and pressure. We provide installation drawings with torque specifications.
